Best Walks Near Emsworth: Chichester Harbour and the South Downs
Emsworth is surrounded by some of the finest walking country in Hampshire and West Sussex — Chichester Harbour to the east, the South Downs National Park to the north, and the coastal path in between.
The Chichester Harbour coastal path runs along the western shore of the harbour from Emsworth toward Langstone, passing through Prinsted and Nutbourne. The path is largely flat and offers outstanding views across the tidal mudflats and water. It connects to the South Downs Way at various points further inland.
North of Emsworth, the landscape rises into the South Downs National Park. Rowlands Castle — a 20-minute drive north — is an excellent starting point for downland walks. The Staunton Way long-distance footpath connects the Downs back toward the coast at Langstone Harbour. Queen Elizabeth Country Park, a short drive north of Petersfield, has extensive forest and downland trails.
Closer to town, the Hermitage Stream path links Emsworth to Southbourne through a nature reserve, passing through reed beds and meadows that are good for birdwatching. The route is mostly flat and accessible.
